Nécrologie de Bernard Joseph Saucier

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernard Joseph Saucier on March 11th, 2017 at the age of 80 years. He passed away surrounded by his family, after a short and brave battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Loving husband for 46 years of Nicole (née Crégheur), devoted father of Michelle (Bertrand Thériault) and Pierre (Julie Morris) and proud grandfather of Catherine & David Thériault and Adrien & Justin Saucier. He is also survived by his brothers Louis of Calgary, Joseph of Saskatoon, Henri of Courtney, BC and by many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents Alphonse Saucier and Yvonne Saucier (née Schmidt) and by his brother Edouard. Bernard was born in Saskatoon, SK on July 3rd, 1936. He was a graduate of Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox, SK and of St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS. A natural athlete and an avid sportsman he was a member of many baseball, hockey and football teams in his youth; later on in life he loved to be active in the great outdoors. He enjoyed exploring new destinations and travelled extensively in Europe and Canada always using his trusted road maps. During his long career as a high school teacher in Saskatchewan, in Germany (Soest and Lahr) and in Ottawa he touched many lives. During his retirement, he dedicated himself to helping others and will be remembered by many as a caring, generous and compassionate friend. Visitations will be held at the Heritage Funeral Complex, 1250 Trim Road, Orléans, on Friday, April 7th, 2017, from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Funeral services to be held in the Funeral Complex Chapel on April 8th, 2017 at 11:00. Inurnment at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon, SK. Special thanks to Dr. André Gauthier and to the caring staff of the Montfort Hospital. In lieu of flowers, blood donations with Canadian Blood Services or memorial donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family. Il est décédé, sa famille à ses côtés, après un court et courageux combat avec la leucémie aiguë myéloblastique (LAM). Époux bien-aimé de Nicole (née Crégheur) depuis 46 ans, cher papa de Michelle (Bertrand Thériault) et Pierre (Julie Morris) et fier grand-papa de Catherine & David Thériault et Adrien & Justin Saucier. Il laisse aussi dans le deuil ses frères Louis de Calgary, Joseph de Saskatoon, Henri de Courtney, C.-B. et plusieurs belles-sœurs, beaux-frères, neveux, nièces, parents et amis. Il fut prédécédé par ses parents Alphonse Saucier et Yvonne Saucier (née Schmidt) et par son frère Edouard. Bernard est né à Saskatoon, Sask., le 3 juillet 1936. Il a étudié au Collège Athol Murray de Notre Dame à Wilcox, Sask. et à l’Université St. Francis-Xavier à Antigonish, N.-É. Il était un athlète hors-pair et un sportif passionné; dans sa jeunesse il fut membre de plusieurs équipes de baseball, de hockey et de football. Au fil des années il demeura toujours très actif au plein air. De plus, il aimait bien explorer de nouvelles destinations et a beaucoup voyagé en Europe et au Canada avec l’aide de ses fidèles cartes routières. Pendant sa longue carrière comme enseignant au secondaire en Saskatchewan, en Allemagne (Soest et Lahr) et à Ottawa, il a eu un impact sur la vie de plusieurs élèves et collègues. Pendant sa retraite, Bernard s’est dévoué à aider les autres et on se souviendra de lui comme un homme généreux, bienveillant et compatissant. La famille recevra vos condoléances au Complexe funéraire Héritage, 1250, chemin Trim, Orléans, le vendredi 7 avril 2017 de 14 h à 16 h et de 18 h 30 à 20 h 30. Les funérailles se dérouleront dans la Chapelle du complexe funéraire le 8 avril à 11 h. La mise en terre des cendres se fera au cimetière Woodlawn à Saskatoon, Sask. à une date ultérieure. Un grand merci au Dr. André Gauthier pour sa grande sollicitude et à toute l’équipe de l’Hôpital Montfort.
