Peter was an incredibly special person in my life - in particular when we met and became housemates in Sydney Australia. Peter joined myself & 2 other flat mates initially and then we decided to share 2 more apartments just the 2 of us since we got on so well and had such a laugh. We celebrated 1988 the centenary of Australia with friends of Peters visiting from Canada and some Aussie friends - at one point during the day he feel asleep and we placed about 20 empty beer cans around him to make out he got blind drunk - I'm sure I have a photo somewhere deep in my storeroom but we all got a laugh out of. Peter would often complain about our 'cold' winters here which we couldn't understand given he came from Canada. Peter would lie in his sleeping bag on his mattress and I would tease him mercilessly that his room was not too enticing for a lovely lady to join him - which he would always give a wry smile and still managed to work his magic with ladies all the same. When in 1991 we parted ways as i moved to the UK & enroute stayed with his Mum Carolyn, met his family and friends all the while he was in Australia and then Peter made a special trip to visit me in London and we took off to Paris for a fun, frivolous catch-up - eating snails, drinking far too much and sightseeing. We didn't get to see other for several years and our last trip was to Santa Fe New Mexico where we stayed with friends of Peters & had a brilliant time enjoying Margaritas, a visit to an amazing Japanese bath house and road trip to Taos. It was also the 1st time I was witness to the effects his MS diagnosis was having on his well-being and mobility and was sadly the last time we would meet in person. Peter was a fine man, a warm, witty and gentle person whom i loved dearly. He deserved to live a life without pain and discomfort and I take solace that he is now free from these. Thank you for being such a beautiful, good friend to me Peter . Love Janet

Condolences from Sydney, Australia to Peter’s family and friends.
I have not seen Peter since he left Australia in 1993 to return home, but was thinking of him only yesterday, and after googling his name, was incredibly saddened to see news of his long time illness and very recent passing.
I have great memories of the larger than life Peter from the early 90’s in Sydney. Whilst here, he made an impact and many friends. He was full of energy, with an engaging sense of humour. He stood out whenever he entered a room with his blonde hair, his cheeky smile and his very loud, green, hockey jacket.
We had some fun times, worked in the same industry for a time (on the floor of the Sydney Futures Exchange) and Peter even introduced me to my future wife Lisa, shortly before he returned to Canada in September 1993.
It does not surprise me to hear that he was so courageous and made such a positive contribution to many despite the incredible difficulties that he must have endured every day.

I am Peter’s aunt. I was 9 years old the day he was born and I remember it clearly. Over the years we argued like siblings and had our moments but we had a very close personal connection.
As we celebrate him today my heart is broken but I am thankful he is free of the body that betrayed him so brutally. Peter the athlete, the adventurer started traveling the world at a young age, and aren’t we glad he did. He lived a lifetime in a few short years. He and his sister Margie had a competition to see who could be first to visit all the continents. As he flew in and out of Canada he often stayed with us in Vancouver. He made time to see my mother, his grandmother, who lived on Vancouver Island and his Auntie Susan. We always loved his visits, especially my daughter Sarah who adored her cousin Peter who was more like an uncle showing interest in her, teasing and making her feel adored.
My dad had a name for young members of the family. He called them precious gems. Dad’s precious gems were his daughters then his grandchildren. For Peter his precious gems were Will, Ellen Adri and Katie. His love for them is unending. His whole world lit up when they were around, and when they were not around they were always on his mind. Hetook pride each of them.
I have often said I don’t know if I could have been as accepting or positive if faced with the obstacles that Peter encountered everyday. I never heard any bitterness. Yes he was difficult and demanding at times but mostly
he concentrated on what was good in his life, even as his world grew smaller he tried to be upbeat. I admired him so much for that and I have tremendous respect for his strength and endurance. He was truly courageous.
Life became very difficult for Peter. He would have given anything to throw Katie in the air, toss a ball with Will, watch Adri skate see Ellen graduate, shovel his mom’s walk, have a campfire with Jorge, paint Susan’s baseboards, ski with Margie, race cars with Stephen or go crabbing with Ron and I.
What kept him going as his health deteriorated was his ability to do things for others. For Will, Ellen, Ari and Katie, his great friend Ben, his mom and sisters Margie and Susan.
Peter was very aware how fortunate he was that he had a good pension, and could afford to live independently, and be comfortable, and be generous to others. He once told me that when he was diagnosed with MS his then employer increased the companies’ long term disability pension so Peter could have the best possible quality of life as the disease progressed. Our family is eternally grateful for that kind and compassionate act. Peter knew as we know, most people in his position live in desperate poverty and discomfort . I ask you today and going forward to honour our Peter by showing kindness to someone who is disabled, be patient and forgiving of someone with mental illness. Do not judge those less fortunate. We know not from where they came, or why. Visit someone who is shut in. Be generous to those who need help. Assist and protect the vulnerable. For Peter I wish you peace and freedom from restrictions and pain. Rock on Sweet Pete. Know you will never be forgotten.

Peter was such a joy to work with in the community. He was always a visit that brought forth a smile. Warm hearted, kind, always looking to please with everything he did.
